Galerie bei der Oper

The Galerie bei der Oper is an art gallery located next to the famous Vienna State Opera.

Our Collection

Our collection focuses on original Japanese woodblock prints from the 18th to 20th century, including classical ukiyo-e from Edo- and Meiji-Period, shin-hanga and sosaku-hanga. Woodblock prints and paintings from modernist European artists are also on display. In addition, we present a constantly expanding collection of Asian objets d'art, such as Netsuke, Lacquer, Japanese and Chinese Ceramics.

Our Passion

We are also passionate about Japonistic and Chinoises artworks from the turn of the 20th century. When Japan opened up to the West in 1854, a wave of enthusiasm for Japanese art and culture spilled over into Europe. During this period, no artist could escape the influence of Japanese art and handicraft. Take a close look – Japonisme has been embraced in Impressionism, Art Nouveau, Jugendstil and many other movements within Classical Modernism.

Our Service

On our website and online shop, you will find not only a large variety of original Japanese woodblock prints, but also an exclusive selection of European prints, as well as a special section for Netsuke.

We also buy original Japanese woodblock prints. Please visit the 'Sell' section of our website..
